Friends, Firangs and Funkiness

Music and Twitter is an amazing combination. #metal and twitter is even more amazing. If it wasn’t for the two, my stay in Bombay would ve been full of struggles. Unknown place. No place to stay, No clue where to go after landing at the airport. Two metal head friends from Twitter made everything so smooth. Thanks to @CruciFire for letting me stay at his place for a couple of nights. Thanks to @shraddha1812 for receiving me at the airport and giving me directions to reach @CruciFire’s place. The Avatar/Drinks/Dinner Tweetup with the two of them was fun too.

Now to the main part. Porcupine Tree. If it wasn’t for another online friend of mine, I would never have known about them. Thanks to him for keeping me updated about the tickets, the dates etc too.

Enough of acknowledgements.

Porcupine Tree is a Firangi (Foreign), Funky band. Yes, that’s what they are. They make some emo music. All their fans are cannabis smoking, black nail polish wearing, tattooed junkies. You can mosh to their music too. And oh! Did you know that their is a wannabe Indian band trying to copy them, by the name Porcupine? Importantly, most Porcupine Tree fans are Eminem fans too. Who the heck said rock and hip-hop cannot co-exist? There are a lot of people who believe that Porcupine is the real deal and Porcupine Tree is actually an Indian band, copying Porcupine and pretending to be an International act.

Porcupine Tree’s live acts are just insane. They sound way different in their albums. If their is one band which can play live music real tight, then that is Porcupine. And the frontman is a genius. He should ve become a psychologist rather than a musician. He can read minds and perform magic on stage, which includes making the whole audience raise their middle fingers and go on an EmCee, BeeCee chant in unison. Wonder if he performs black magic too. He did say something about all of us living in harmony in hell.

Porcupine Tree on the other hand make the audience cry with their music. Which makes their music Emo. Music is meant to generate emotions. Porcupine does that. They generate anger and hatred. Porcupine Tree leaves you high and dry.

PS : Whatever I mentioned about the bands are opinions of people who were around me during the show.  I am not talking about my friends here, but some tr00est of the tr00 music lovers who gave their opinion about the bands and their music  + a bit of spice from my side to keep it lame as usual.
