Simplicity is Elegance

I have this habit of marking items on Google Reader as “Read” when I am too tired to read stuff. I do not do that with a few feeds though. One of them is XKCD‘s.

The one which appeared today caught my attention, not only for its funniness, but also how thought provoking it was. Here it goes.

3 x 9

A simple calculation done in a complex way. Sometimes, in our quest for excellence, we forget that simplicity is elegance. Doing things in a simple way is much more difficult when we have a lot of technical know how at our disposal. Not that we should test our limits by attempting difficult things, but going back to basics helps in re-learning.

PS : I am still going through that Eff. Emm. Ell phase. When I am going through one such phase, I usually get philosophical. In a very lame way.
