Observations : Was it this drunk guy’s fault?

A couple of days back, I was reading the news (on the RSS feeds. I have stopped reading the newspapers). I came across this bit of news about a drunk guy waking up with a hangover and realizing that he had his ATM card stolen and about 2 lakhs was withdrawn from his account and I was like, “How irresponsible of him to get piss drunk like this with such assets in his wallet?!”

There are a few things for all those who get drunk to learn from this incident.

  • Get the bottles and drink with your friends in your apartment or in your hotel room. It is cheaper. And you get to drink late into the night and need not worry about the pub closing operations for the day/night/whatever. There is always the music system to take care of the music.
  • Never get piss drunk. If you cannot prevent yourself from going to a bar/pub, avoid getting piss drunk. Even if you do, make sure that you have a couple of friends who will be in their senses. And yes, they need to be trust worthy
  • If both are unavoidable, make sure that you do not carry your ATM/Debit/Credit Cards to the venue.
  • If that is not possible because you are hosting the party and do not know what the amount is going to be, you are surely carrying the ATM/Debit/Credit card with you. In that case, make sure that you have the SMS alerts turned on, like the guy in the report, so that you get to know, when you wake up with the hangover, about how much money you lost the previous night. This is not just about the amount they lost throwing the party, but also how much the others withdrew from your account.
  • That leaves me with some final suggestions
    • Never host parties
    • Never carry plastic cash when going out with your friends. Even if it is an impromptu drinking session, you are not paying. Light on your pockets as well.
    • Best of all, never have a huge bank balance. In short, being bankrupt is the solution to a lot of problems. πŸ˜€

PS : If you are beginning to wonder if this was a “Note to Self”, no it isn’t. I have NOT been drinking much, lately.
